Though the recordings only go as far back as 60 years ago, these songs of love and death date back to medieval times and have been handed down through the centuries (except for 3 which draw on old ballads for influence). From a leprous, child-killing monster who lives in the moss, to lords and ladies bound to each other by murderous lust even beyond the grave, to a maiden wandering through a forest and receiving visions, the stories of these songs are morbidly compelling and rendered gorgeously by the artists.
