these aren't necessarily the saddest, most emotional songs in existence, but they sure were nice to have in the background to encourage tears

the songs are vaguely grouped like so:
nostalgia ~ idealising the past that never was, fully well knowing you're trying to grasp mist at best, the petrifying passage of time, missed opportunities
just. sad ~ trauma? got it. cocaine abuse? yup. self-deprecation? goctha. more generalised and bound to be cringey
hopefulness ~ from songs about people who have the world before them, certainty and opportunities and dreams, which you can't ever imagine for yourself
to those that promise that it might be alright to just be
