the unexpected harvest....
found an odd Jackie Gleason LP in New Orleans recently - "Softly", from 1970... a wonderfully syrupy LP which includes an ad on the back for "Placidyl", a sleeping pill that was removed from the market in 1999 due to it's many ill effects. The notion of this heavy easy listening sound coupled with a big pharmaceutical push kinda gives you the chills - almost an eerie glimpse into a futuristic 'Brave New World' in which drugs and music are sold hand in hand...
