City Lights! is a creation by Erik V. that started in Denver, Colorado one night when the street lights had just come on downtown. Erik was walking to Beta, just off the bus with his headphones on, but he was listening to his newest remix that completely blew away all the rest. He had tapped into a nu-disco/funk house style that he was already deejaying. He looks up as the lights flicker and come on, he stops for a minute and a feeling takes over his body, a feeling he wasn't ready for. He, in that moment, now saw his potential that he could continue this and find his place. He was about to just give up on music all together and then at that moment, with the street lights beaming, the city booming, he knew what his direction would be. On that day Erik V. was transformed into City Lights!
Fast forward a couple years, many more songs, remixes, and edits, and a record deal in Detroit have fallen into his lap because of much hard work. City Lights! has become a name in Detroit that people are starting to recognize and book at more shows, so it's been a pretty beautiful thing. There is no telling what the future has for him, but with the way things have been going, it's hopefully going to shine as bright as those street lights on that fateful night in Denver, Colorado.
