Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington was a masterful and prolific songwriter who gave the world so many of the jazz classics we enjoy today. His brilliance often led him to rerecord some of his classics through the years, offering different takes in order to liven up the sound, or modernize it based upon the newer (or fewer) players he may have had within his orchestras or smaller groups. What we're left with is music that's always inspiring and thoughtful.
