Power Pop is guitar driven, hook heavy, often harmonious rock and roll influenced by Bubblegum Pop, British Invasion era, and early American garage Rock. Power Pop was at its peak throughout the 70's and early 80's. Many new rock sub-genres throughout the 80's and 90's were influenced by, and evolved from, early Power Pop music. While the overall popularity of Power Pop has diminished over the years, the influences of the genre can be still be felt, and the style is often present in "alternative" and contemporary garage rock from the 90's to today.
