A man who was volunteering in Northern China was taken by North Korean abductors. He found himself teaching English to North Korea's young elites, and knowing he couldn't escape he eventually got married and had a child, both of whom he loves. But after 16 years, he might finally have a chance to get out. The first half or so of the book is about him living in North Korea, the second half is about his 14-year-old son, trying to figure out why his father has disappeared (is he dead, in trouble, or did he escape without his family?)
