Slaves rise up against their masters, led by a boy who feels hopelessly outmatched. Fighting against a system of heavily enforced elitism in which only the highest ranked can wield powers and magic, the boy is terrified but determined, driven only by the fact that his sister - taken for her own, natural powers - sits at the right hand of the city's leader. The unwillingly head of this unlikely army, the boy must find a way to convince his sister to walk away from power and control, a way to stay alive, and find a peace and a home for the people who have placed their trust in him.
