True gypsy folk music uses virtually no instrumentation -- instead, the improvised songs are accompanied by rhythmic grunts. Because the urban gypsy bands play exclusively for non-gypsy audiences, few even know the true music of their own culture; as a result, gypsy folk is primarily confined to amateur musicians.

It depends where the gipsies are from. In Spain the guitar is present in most gipsy flamenco music.
