Kapvik is just a tiny dot in the vast Arctic tundra. The sound of a train echoes in the distance and she begins to run, running towards it and away from the knowledge that she is alone.

Kapvik escaped a mass slaughter of the indigenous peoples who raised her. The slaughter came as Alaska was given back to Russia in a bizarre political act. However, her adopted family were already on the brink of losing their livelihoods as the Arctic ice melted away. Kapvik watched villages sink into the ocean and food sources wither and die.

Kapvik’s story begins as she flees Alaska, only to find the continental United States has an impenetrable wall around all its borders.
