A short opera, usually on a light or humorous theme and typically having spoken dialogue. Operettas have similarities to both operas and musicals, and the boundaries between the genres are sometimes blurred, but operettas are usually shorter than operas, and are usually of a light and amusing character. Operettas are often considered less "serious" than operas. Topical satire is a feature common to many operettas.
