Yes you're right it's usually called strut... i read something about it somewhere. I think it said that the stomp version is a slightly alternate version or take or something. I'll look into that :)

i'm actually not really that knowledgeable in the funk department. i discovered that Public Enemy sampled The Grunt in one of their tracks by hearing it in a record store one day. lots of good funk sampled in rap and hip hop, i realized. anyway, speaking of good funk, great mix! thanks for the funk discussion as well!! :)

Wow Aunt13, you're a really knowledgeable funkateer! Yeah I like that pained quality in the lyrics a lot too. Funny that this is from the same guy that did the imo mushy "Just the Two of Us". Or maybe that is the other side of the same coin if you know what i mean.
