The Original Rockers

Notes

African American musicians in the 1940s and 1950s were developing rhythm and blues into a genre called rock and roll, however, it was only through white musicians that this rock and roll music became commercially successful. By copying the energetic rhythm and fun lyrics and appropriating it as their own without credit or permission - ex: "Surfin' U.S.A." "by" the Beach Boys which was originally "Sweet Little Sixteen" by Chuck Berry, the Beach Boys stole the tune and chords and changed only the lyrics, and for some reason people think that Michael Bublé wrote "Feeling Good" by Nina Simone? Good God people - rock music thereafter became more associated with white people. This playlist aims to advertise some of the original rockers.
