Notes
Because of the release of John Doe's new book, "Under the Big Black Sun," I've been having feelings about the early L.A. punk and hardcore scenes, so I decided to make a mix. The usual disclaimers: 1. I've included punk, post-punk, cowpunk, synthpunk, power pop, and hardcore, because I can. So not here for narrow definitions of punk. 2. Not all the bands were from L.A. proper, but they were all from the L.A. metro area. 3. This is by no means comprehensive. There are a lot of bands I left off. 4. This playlist covers, roughly, 1976-1982, though there are a few songs that were released in '83 and '84.
