Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland, Kathleen Hanna, Johnny Rotten, Eddie Vedder, Tim Armstrong, and Paz Lenchantin (of the Pixies) are all extremely influential figures of the Grunge / Punk Rock movement in the 1980s and 1990s towards the turn of the 21st century. These important names all helped contribute to an "alternative" counter-culture movement that is still alive today. Though some of these folks might have had short lives from reckless rockstar lifestyles, they changed the way anyone thinks about the genre of rock music. Grunge and Punk both usually consists of heavier guitar tones, swirling whips of cigarette smoke, rowdy drums, gritty production qualities, lots of distortion or darker effects, and various looks of disapproval.
