“So… I’m making the right decision?”
She looks up at me as the tracks begin to shudder, signalling a rapidly approaching train. She looks happy and scared and unsure and confident, all at once. I grin, and she grins back. Her eyes light up, and they’re not as bright as they used to be, but the fire’s still there. It never really burned out, because I didn’t allow it to. A candle flame is still fire, no matter how small, and it always has the potential to set the rest of the world ablaze.
“The best decision,” I say firmly, and she laughs.
