My 1967

Notes

As a kid in the 70s, I heard the Beatles, Stones, Beach Boys - but never dug deep into 60s music until I was an adult. In the 80s, I got some insight into 60s music from a revival of artists like Simon & Garfunkel, The Doors, etc, from use in film or covers by new bands. As I heard more, I found something true in every decade - I liked a lot of songs that weren't what you normally hear. I also noticed I liked twice as many songs from 1967 as any other year. Something about 1967 encapsulated the decade. The British Invasion fad began to wane, Psychedelic Rock hit its peak, and contemporary 70s rock just started to creep into view. The emphatic sound of Led Zeppelin was only two years away, yet few artists like Hendrix, Cream or The Kinks gave us a glimpse of the best music of the 70s.
