My father once had a little cabin on a northern lake, about an hour's drive out of town. I spent a lot of time there growing up: hiking and snowshoeing on old trails, canoeing, reading by candlelight in bunk beds with wool blankets, feeding the wood stove during winter, staring out over the lake when it rained.

Years ago, some time after I left town, my father had the cabin torn down and replaced with a modern house. He sent me a photo of the rubble. I haven't been back since.

You can't go home again, but if I could, this is the music I imagine I'd listen to.
