When John Smith happens upon a small wolf he is instantly taken with her. Though only pack members can speak telepathically, John and Pocahontas find they can do this upon meeting. They agree to continue meeting even though it's dangerous for a lone wolf to take up residence in a strong pack's territory. The meetings done last long, as soon John is capture and taken prisoner by wolves from the Virginia pack.
