I had a brief love affair with popular country music during my first year of college. Up until that point, I was knee deep in 90’s gangster rap and the alternative scene. Enter Kendra. She lived in the single next to mine. My instant bestie. We studied together, ate together, drank jungle juice and partied together, pledged Alpha Phi together. Kendra had a flaw. She was obsessed with country music. I loathed that shit-kicking twang. You’ll find if you listen to something long enough, it grows on you like a fungus.
