Notes
This playlist focuses on Bikutsi music from Cameroon, a style originally derived from the Beti people music in and around Yaoundé, the capital. It is characterised by its energetic and intricate rhythm patterns ( usually ) 6/8 and this is referenced in the name as Bikutsi literally means "beat the earth". It's often regarded as one of the country's two main popular styles (the other one being makossa style). Another signature sound of Bikutsi music if the muffled guitar sound developed by Los Camaroes in the 1960s.
