The first jazz ballad was recorded on February 4, 1927 by Frankie Trumbauer and his Orchestra.

"Singin' the Blues" was a record that stood out amongst all the hot and raging jazz of the day. It inspired musicians to record that tune in a resembling manner and several other compositions followed with a similar structure or vibe.
