A Cenote is a natural limestone sinkhole that exposes a pool of groundwater.
They were considered sacred to the Maya. Due to the natural filtration of the earth, the water is usually very clear.

The surface of the Cenote water you have stumbled upon is very clear indeed. Almost like a mirror. And it seems you have the whole place to yourself. The water corruscates and swirls, and the light from above reflects on the surface and cast patterns of light across the moss covered walls. These patterns subtly change with the passage of the sun through the sky... You have found yourself a mystic area of contemplation.
