Notes
Paul Whiteman made them sweet, Artie Shaw made them swing, and Charlie Parker made them hip. Fact is, jazz artists have always had a thing for strings. Some call this blend of styles "commercial," but I say let the cats play. That's what Clifford Brown, Roy Hargrove, Sonny Stitt, and many other TomCat favorites do on this all-instrumental mix. Sometimes the strings stand out (and not always in a good way) but more often they blend tastefully into the fabric of the music.
