And I never knew the title of the Strauss piece from 2001: a space odyssey was "thus spach zarathustra" or which ever translation of the famous Nietzsche classic one uses. Apparently, that "tone poem" came out in 1896, named and themed after Nieztsche's book. The irony lost on Strauss is that he represented German Romanticism which Nietzsche wrote The Birth of Tragedy (his first book, published 1872) almost entirely against. Though inspired by Wagner while writing BoT, Nietzsche wrote "Contra Wagner" to solidify his critique of any German Romanticism, calling for a return to ancient Greek tragedy.
