Mark Z. Danielewski is a mess of a man, his words able to be taken as unreliable when it comes to information which he would willingly confess to being unreliable in regards to it. The lines between reality and fiction often mixing when he gives answers or tells a story. He is also a rather paranoid individual, often taking drugs or even drinking when he has the opportunity to help calm himself down.

The ability House of Leaves is a strange one. When Danielewski touches a door in a specific way before opening it, it opens up to a never ending hallway. He can then close the door behind someone effectively trapping them inside the endless hallway. It is difficult to escape it without his assistance or without someone who can cancel out the ability.
