In August 1969, over 400,000 people gathered on a New York dairy farm to experience “three days of peace and music.” The Woodstock Music and Arts Fair left an indelible mark on almost all those who attended. It would go on to become the most iconic music festival in history. It has captured popular imagination for a half-century as an embodiment of--in the words of Jimi Hendrix, Woodstock’s final act--“peace, yeah, and happiness.”
